Straight answer first: we don’t physically test the machines on this site. We research them. Here’s exactly how, so you can judge our picks for yourself.
Where our information comes from
- Manufacturer specifications and manuals — pump pressure, basket type, grinder type, milk system, and the maintenance each machine needs.
- Live UK prices — every price button comes from Amazon’s own product API and refreshes through the day. We keep an hourly price history, so we can tell a genuine deal from a normal price.
- Owner reviews and reliability reports — what UK owners say after months of use, especially about build, parts availability and after-sales support.
- Manufacturer maintenance guidance — our descaling and cleaning guides follow what the manufacturers specify, and point you to your manual where button sequences differ between models.
How we pick and rank
- A product has to be sold on Amazon UK and currently available — our system checks this automatically and flags listings that disappear.
- We rank on fit for a specific need (a first espresso machine, a busy household, a tight budget), then value at today’s price.
- For consumables such as descalers and filters, we compare cost per use, not just the pack price.
- Third-party “compatible” products are always labelled as such.
