How to descale a Vertuo — step by step

  1. Open the head, eject any capsule, close and lock. Empty the drip tray, and place a 1L+ container under the spout.
  2. Fill the tank with the descaler solution mixed per the bottle (roughly 500ml total).
  3. Enter descaling mode — on most Vertuo models (Next, Pop, Plus) you press the button rapidly several times, then confirm with a press-and-hold until the light blinks orange; the exact taps vary slightly by model, and your machine’s quick-start card lists it under ‘special functions’.
  4. Press the button to start. The machine pushes the solution through in pulses until the tank is empty.
